The Canton Legends have decided to suspend play for the 2009 AIFA season and will look to restructure and return for the opening of their 2010 campaign.

According to the Canton Legends website, team executives said, “By being part of our economically challenged times and issued the worst game day schedule since our inception…we are opting to follow the AFL's lead to restructure in 2009 and to return for the 2010 season.”

A very proud franchise, which has been in the AIFA since 2006, the Legends have recently gone from being league champions in 2006, to having one of worst records in 2008. They found themselves in a position to benefit from the AFL’s decision to halt play this season, but are concerned that they do not have what is necessary to maintain the team and give everyone involved, fans included, what they were hoping for in 2009.

The Canton Legends are a community oriented franchise, assisting businesses throughout their area and distributing more than 15,000 complimentary tickets to groups in the last 4 years.
This is not a franchise that has forgotten about the people who keep them running.

The Legends’ Dance Team will continue to perform in the area and will continue to be a part of the Canton community to show that there is true intent of returning in 2010.
