LONG POND, Pa. - Pocono Raceway is working with sponsors to upgrade track facilities in an effort to become one of the most environmentally conscious tracks in NASCAR.

Plans include adding more recycling bins near food and beverage vendors, planting trees for the “NASCAR Green Flag Initiative” and constructing a 3.0MW solar farm which will become the primary power source for the racetrack.

Pocono Raceway is looking to Single-stream recycling (all types of recyclables in one container) as another way to decrease the trash levels and keep the track clean.
To assist the track’s efforts, Pepsi, Anheuser-Busch and Waste Management have contributed recycling bins to the track in hoping to reduce the amount of recyclables that are being thrown in the trash.

Also, as part of the "NASCAR Green Clean Air" program, 10 trees will be planted for every green flag that drops during future Sprint Cup Series events. This will help reduce the carbon footprint of the sport and bring conservation awareness to NASCAR fans.

Finally, Pocono Raceway will be constructing the 3.0MW Pocono Raceway Solar Farm on its property which will power 1000 area homes and reduce carbon emissions by 5100 tons will be used as the main power supply for the race track. With the help of ENXCO, an affiliate of EDF Energies Nouvelles, the project should be completed next March.

These steps will benefit the local environment, keeping it cleaner and making it more attractive for the year-round community and the thousands of fans who come together for two race weekends every year.
